Environmentally Friendly
More than 1,350 acres of landfill space is consumed by wood waste. Tomson's pride ourselves in the fact that we do not contribute to this. Tomson's has an in-house wood recyclable plant. All mill shavings, saw dust and lumber waste are ground up and produced into a pellet that could be burnt in a wood stove. Wood pellets replace their electric, oil, and gas alternatives. Those alternatives are produced in various environmentally unfriendly ways and often rely on non-renewable resources. Wood pellets burn cleaner than normal wood. A typical wood stove produces 7.5 grams of particulate emissions per hour. A wood pellet stove produces only 1.2.
But that's just the beginning of our environmental friendliness. By running the grinders off of motors which are already turning for other functions no additional electric is used to produce the wood pellets. The pellets are then burnt and used to heat our wood kilns reducing the consumption of further electric and heating oil. These kilns produce top quality dry lumber which we use to produce our fine wood products. Thus restarting the cycle.
